Heartland of America

HEARTLAND OF AMERICA : KANSAS

How could I pass up this scene from the Heartland of America in celebration of the upcoming 4th of July Holiday Weekend*

The inset photograph was taken by Cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko from the Cupola of the International Space Station : Oleg took the photograph using a 1200mm lens during Expedition 31.

Using the images timestamp, I located the area of the inset Roscosmos photograph by calculating the Nadir position of the Space Station. With this info, I used my trusty Where's Waldo technique to locate the patterns visible in the image for an exact match.

The american flag scene stuck out as an obvious highlight, so I rolled with that for the final compilation using ESRI ArcGIS & Adobe Creative Cloud Integrations.

For anyone up to the challenge, try locating this scene using google earth. It is in Edwards County, between Dodge City and Wichita, which is densely packed with center pivot irrigation.
